Because Most knowledge workers do not approach knowledge work seriously we end up taking notes on a specific reading or do thinking for a specific deliverable and that’s about it.
These strategies worked to get us through school and they’ve been good enough for our jobs.
This style of note taking is “wasteful”. The thoughts we have in these contexts are lost when the project is forgotten. If we write Evergreen notes instead then we can benefit from our notes over time.
We don’t realize that our note taking methods are ineffective because Note-writing practices provide weak feedback.
