I feel like I have some pre-existing notes for this, but I cannot find them. Making a new one for now.

My go to stack is web. I default to React. I’ve used Phaser in the past, but I’m not really a big fan of it.

There’s a bunch of stuff I’m interested in:

  • Nova lang - tabletop game inspired programming language. I’m pretty curious about this because I feel like a lot of game dev environments are real time oriented. I want to explore something with a different mindset.
  • Godot - I think it is worth it for me to learn a “real” game dev environment to ship stuff on desktop and console. I have actually enjoyed by encounters with Godot thus far in Make games in Godot.
  • Love2d with TypeScriptToLua - This felt pretty nice when I used it over the holiday break. I want to check it out again.

I’ve tried out Haxe in the past. It doesn’t quite work for me. I’ve kinda burned out on a few projects I started in it. So far, Love2d w/ TypeScript just feels pretty similar, but better since there’s no new on ramp for me to learn the Haxe ecosystem.
